PDEA 6 agents find drug dens in Bakhaw
Agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency 6 found several drugs in Brgy. Bakhaw, Mandurriao district in Iloilo City during a patrol Tuesday afternoon.
Together with the City Anti-Illegal Drugs Task Force, the PDEA 6 team led by regional chief Paul Ledesma checked the area, considered as the city’s drug haven, to verify drug-related information.
While at the area, Ledesma said he received a text message about illegal drug activities at the house of Ramil Rolando, arrested a month ago for illegal drug possession.
Outside the gate of Rolando’ house, Ledesma said a man came out and went running back inside the compound.
Ledesma’s team entered the compound and saw four huts and a one-room house with table and chairs, apparently drug dens where users hold “pot sessions.”
They also found illegal drug paraphernalia such as tooters, aluminum foils, sachets and lighters scattered all over the place.
But no arrests were made.
Ledesma said he might have been surprised at the existence of such abodes, but he said it was not impossible because illegal drugs thrive in Bakhaw.
Even village officials are not aware of the existence of such dwellings, reports said.
Bakhaw village is the base of operation of one of the two drug groups operating in Iloilo City.
That’s why Bakhaw is still considered as a seriously-drug affected barangay, Ledesma said, but he could not ascertain the number of drug pushers based in the area.
“We are focusing our attention on Bakhaw and Brgy. Tanza Esperanza (in City Proper district) because these are the bases of the two drug groups in the metro,” he said.*
