MIGEDC members train on transpo, traffic concerns
The National Center for Transportation Studies of University of the Philippines-Diliman is conducting a training on Advanced Course on Transportation Planning and Traffic Engineering and Management from September 20- 24 in Iloilo City.
The five-day training is participated by the member-representatives of the Metro Iloilo-Guimaras Economic Development Council composed of Pavia, Sta. Barbara, Leganes, Oton, San Miguel, Iloilo City and the Province of Guimaras. Representatives of the Land Transportation Office, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board, and the Philippine National Police are also attending.
The activity is a sequel training course to the Basic Seminar-Workshop on the same subject matter conducted in September 2008 that seeks to further capacitate the Technical Working Group of the MIGEDC-JICA Project of the said local government units in the knowledge and skills for transportation planning.
The training aims to enable them to address the growing problem of motorization and environmental damage in their respective localities.
The JICA-MIGEDC project management said an Environmentally Sustainable Transport (EST) system has to be installed as early as now to ensure a healthy, safe, and livable world for all.
The training is the last in a series sponsored by JICA for MIGEDC as part of the project on Multi-stakeholder Transport Planning and Traffic Management Improvement in Metro Iloilo-Guimaras.
