New city hall may use solar panels
Solar panels may be put up at the new city hall to save energy.
Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said using solar panels as source of renewable energy will enable the city to save on electricity bills in the long run.
The installation of solar panels will cost the city government some P10 million, including its various components and fabrications.
Mabilog, however, said the proposed solar panel is not part of the revisions in the city hall design that would cost more than P200 million.
Solar panels convert sunlight into electricity with the help of solar cells. The panels are connected electrically to one another usually used for commercial and residential buildings. Multiple solar panels can produce sizeable amount of electricity enough to power an entire structure for hours.
Solar panels are also being used as substitutes for energy production and conservation. These panels help cut down heating and air conditioning bills.
It may be installed on rooftops to allow maximum exposure to sunlight and functions best when exposed to direct sunlight.
Mabilog said the solar panels will more likely be installed right after the city hall is inaugurated.*PNA
