WV institutions to receive national Gawad Kalasag
Several institutions in Western Visayas will receive the National Gawad Kalasag Award in various categories.
The Gawad KALASAG (KAlamidad at Sakuna LAban, Sariling Galing ang Kaligtasan) is a prestigious award given by Malacañang and the National Disaster Coordinating Council to recognize various stakeholders in their programs on disaster risk management.
Office of Civil Defense 6 Regional Director Rosario Cabrera said she has been informed that the region will receive the Gawad Kalasag Award for having the Best Municipal Disaster Coordinating Council (MDCC), Best Barangay Disaster Coordinating Council (BDCC), Best Private/Volunteer Organization, Best NGOs on Humanitarian Assistance, and Best School.
The Best MDCC First to Third Class Category will be awarded to San Jose, Antique, first place, and in the Fourth-Sixth Class Category to Guimbal, Iloilo, first place.
Brgy. Hoskyn in Jordan, Guimaras is second place in the Best BDCC (Rural Barangay Category).
For the Private/Volunteer Organization Category, the 5052nd Search and Rescue Auxiliary Squadron of Antique Province also won first place.
The Best NGOs on Humanitarian Assistance Award will be given to the Social Action Center- Diocese of Antique, third place. However, the SAC-Diocese of Antique was first place last year.
For the School Category, the Cabasi-Sta Rosa Elementary School in Guimbal won first place.
Cabrera said the winners from Western Visayas are also the regional awardees who received their awards last September 23 at the Sarabia Manor Hotel and Convention Center in Iloilo City.*PNA
