Don’t use gov’t resources in campaign – DILG exec
The Department of Interior and Local Government 6 has reminded incumbent village chiefs and other officials running in the October 25 elections not to use government resources in their campaign.
Regional Director Evelyn Trompeta said these government resources could be vehicles, office supplies, and personnel.
“Using government resources in the election campaign is highly prohibited,” she added.
Erring government officials will face criminal and administrative charges, Trompeta said.
The campaign period for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections will be from October 14 to 23.
The DILG official also reminded mayors, governors and congressmen not to campaign for any candidate because the barangay and SK elections are non-partisan.
Trompeta said government officials may endorse and support their candidates but they are prohibited from campaigning for them especially by using government resources also.
She said government officials should secure “trip tickets” wherever they use government vehicles.
“Trip tickets authorize the travel. They also determine the purpose in using the government vehicle,” she said.
The election period started last September 25 and will last until November 10.
During this period, local governments units are prohibited from hiring new employees, approving promotions, and granting salary increase.
