P5M lost in downtown fire
Fire destroyed a store at Romeo Go building in Aldeguer St., Iloilo City late Tuesday afternoon.
Members of the Bureau of Fire Protection and fire volunteers contained the fire at RYC Home Supply to stop it from spreading towards other stores in the building.
Although only RYC Home Supply was razed, the “cooling operation” also affected adjacent stores, including Wise Buy Commercial, Golden Textile, New Lee’s Trading, and 2658 Marketing.
“We peg the damage to property to be around P5 million,” City Fire Marshal Ronaldo Denaga said.
The four other establishments suffered “water losses” after firemen and fire volunteers sprayed water on their stores to prevent the fire from spreading.
Most of the items damaged include ready-to-wear clothes and textiles.
Investigation showed the fire started at the back part of the RYC Home Supply where its owner Domingo Chua was cooking dog food.
Chua said he forgot to turn off the stove when a power interruption occurred and he headed home.*
