Capiz has 425,621 voters for brgy. polls
ROXAS CITY – The province of Capiz has a total of 425,621 registered voters based on the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) provincial office statistical data as of Sept. 3, 2010, in view of the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections on October 25.
The data also show the province’s 473 barangays have 33,350 SK voters.
Meanwhile, Roxas City Election Supervisor Jomar Alyzar Betita said that about 25 aspirants for village and youth council seats have already filed their certificates of candidacy (COC).
The 13-day period for the filing of COC for the Barangay and SK elections started on October 1.
The filing of COCs will be held daily, including Saturday and Sunday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. until October 12 and from 8 a.m. to midnight on October 13.
In its Resolution No. 9029, the COMELEC en banc said Filipino citizens who are at least 18 years of age on the day of the elections, able to read and write Filipino or any local dialect and are registered voters and residents of the barangay where they intend to run for office for at least one year before election day, are qualified to run for the punong barangay and barangay kagawad positions.
The resolution also stated that SK candidates must be Filipino citizens, at least 15 years old but less than 18 years old on Election Day; able to read and write Filipino, English or the local dialect; qualified members of the Katipunan ng Kabataan of the Barangay where they intend to run for office and residents thereof for at least one year immediately preceding the election; and must not have been convicted of a crime involving moral turpitude.
Candidates for the barangay and SK positions must file a “sworn certificate of candidacy” in person in four copies and must have documentary stamps.
