Ex-mayor’s son, pal nabbed for illegal drug possession
A son of a former mayor and his companion were arrested for alleged possession of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride also known as “shabu” Monday night in Sitio Tuburan, Brgy. Igtambo, San Miguel, Iloilo.
Police identified the suspects as Rowen Cabana, 28, of Brgy. Talacuan, Leon, Iloilo, son of former town Mayor Romulo Cabana; and Jessie Rey Cabilos, 29, of Cabaluna St., also in Leon.
Policemen noticed their presence after the two, who were on board a Yamaha motorcycle without plate number, overtook the patrol vehicle of the San Miguel Police Station team led by Insp. Conrado Rances Jr.
Rances’ group went after them.
“We just asked them for the papers of the motorcycle like the OR (official receipt) and the CR (certificate of registration). Suddenly, one of the suspects took a pack of cigarette from his wallet and threw it on the pavement,” Rances said.
As the policemen were about to check the cigarette pack, Cabana identified himself as the son of a former mayor.
“Maybe, they panicked because we were about to frisk them,” Rances said.
When the policemen opened the cigarette pack, they found eight small sachets of suspected shabu inside.
The two are not found in the watchlist of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency 6, but Regional Director Paul Ledesma said the source of Cabana and Cabilos in San Miguel is among the illegal drug personalities being monitored by PDEA 6.
Cabana and Cabilos , however, denied before the PDEA 6 that they are illegal drug users and pushers.
As of press time, both are detained at the lock-up cell of San Miguel Police Station.*
