Panay provinces get P41.18M in 4Ps conditional cash grants
The four provinces in Panay received more than P41.18 million in conditional cash grants for their poorest families under the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).
In Iloilo province, the towns of San Rafael and Carles received P1,601,800 and P5,795,700, respectively. Also, 147 conditional cash recipients from Iloilo City received a total of P311,000.
A total of P12,729,200 in cash grants were released to 4,570 beneficiaries from the towns of Barbaza, Bugasong, Laua-an, Valderrama and San Remegio in Antique, while the 5,113 beneficiaries from Libacao, Madalag,Balete and Buruanga in Aklan received P17,456,300.
The municipalities of Maayon and Pilar in Capiz received P3,289,800 in cash grants.
Assistant Regional Director Joel Galicia of the Department of Social Welfare and Development 6 said 18,633 poor families from all over Western Visayas have benefited from the 4Ps as of September 2010.
Of the number, about 3,000 beneficiaries received their financial subsidies in cash through an over-the-counter payment made by Land bank of the Philippines, while the rest got theirs through the LBP automated teller machines.
Galicia said beneficiaries from 39 other cities and municipalities in the region which are covered by 4Ps will also be able to avail of their conditional cash grants within the year.
The 4Ps is the government’s flagship poverty alleviation program that provides conditional cash grants to extremely poor households with children zero to 14 years old.
“As long as the beneficiaries comply with the program’s conditions, they may avail of P6,000 health package per year and P3,000 educational package for ten months,” Galicia said.
The program is being implemented in five municipalities in Antique; two in Guimaras; four in Aklan; six in Capiz; 11 in Iloilo, including Iloilo City; and 24 cities and municipalities in Negros Occidental.*
