Nutrition movement launching set
A movement to engage active participation of communities in improving their nutritional status will be launched on October 14 in Iloilo City during the holding of the 21st Nutrition Congress.
Dubbed “One Nutrition, One Nation Movement” this program is spearheaded by the Department of Health and the National Nutrition Council, as a call for every Filipino to help improve the country’s nutritional status, by maintaining healthy food and nutrition habits.
“Launching this movement is our way of recognizing that government alone cannot solve the problem of hunger and malnutrition. It needs the participation of every Filipino,” Nona Tad-y, NNC regional coordinator, said in a briefing.
Tad-y said it is called “One Nutrition” because members of a community show they are united in their efforts to fight malnutrition through changes in lifestyles and personal food and nutrition habits as well as find ways to help others.
“One Nation” because every Filipino all over the country is enjoined to participate and benefit from the movement by registering with www.doh.gov.ph website by posting the slogan “I belong and I can make a difference to end hunger and malnutrition in the Philippines.”
Tad-y said a person’s membership is a form of commitment to keep fit, nutritionally active and alert and help others through social networks.
The launching will include commitment signing of local officials and nutrition stakeholders in the region as a symbol of a common effort against malnutrition amidst waving of flaglets to symbolize unity.*PIA6
