Iloilo board members back Aquino support for RH bill
Members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Iloilo are backing the endorsement of President Benigno Simeon Aquino III of the Reproductive Health (RH) bill.
Vice Gov. Oscar “Richard” Garin Jr., husband of First District Rep. Janette Garin, a sponsor of the RH bill, said he welcomes and support the endorsement of the President because the law is much needed to uplift the lives of poor Filipinos.
Garin said the RH bill is the long-range and major solution to the country’s problem on poverty.
He said that for him, what is more immoral is the fact that many parents could not send their children to school or even feed them, and for women not to have safe pregnancy.
Garin also urged the local government units to have their own local ordinance on RH and not to wait anymore for the Congress to pass the long pending RH bill.
Meanwhile, Second District Board Member June Mondejar said he is impressed with the President’s stand on RH knowing that it is a sensitive issue because of the involvement of the Catholic Church.
Mondejar said a law on RH is needed in Iloilo province, considering the number of impoverished families in the far-flung barangays that could barely feed or send their children to school.
“There ought to be birth control so that parents would only have children they could afford to care for,” he said.*PNA
