E-bamboo forum set
The Department of Trade and Industry-Capiz Provincial Office in collaboration with the German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GTZ) will conduct a forum on Engineered Bamboo (E-Bamboo) on October 12 at MVW Restaurant and Tourist Inn here.
The forum aims to gather the 17 local government units (LGU) in Capiz together with prospective local investors to discuss and map out plans on how to jumpstart the industry.
“DTI has been laying out the groundwork for the establishment of the industry in Capiz for more than a year now,” DTI-Capiz Provincial Director Ermelinda Pollentes said.
A Bamboo Technical Working Group has already been established and is working closely with DTI in creating a climate conducive for the bamboo business.
The resource speakers will include Cotton Industry Technology Center executive director Franklin Bunoan and Tingguian-Iloko Multi-Purpose Cooperative (MPC) project manager Derdei Roce Ifurong.
The Tingguian – Iloko MPC, based in Bangued, Abra, is a pioneer in E-Bamboo and is succeeding immensely in their operation.
Pollentes will also share the Capiz Bamboo Industry Value Chain Analysis, including its accomplishments and plans.
GTZ Senior Adviser Uwe Sturmann will outline the role of GTZ in the development of the E-Bamboo in the province.
A survey released by the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office ranked the towns of Dumarao, Dumalag and Tapaz with the most number of bamboo plantation owners.
The vast private land bamboo grooves are commonly grown with “botong” and “kawayan tinik” species, the survey noted.*PIA
