‘Gambling free city, low crime rate’
ROXAS CITY – Mayor Angel Alan Celino highlighted Roxas City being a gambling-free city, without ghost employees, and having low crime rate as among his accomplishments in his first 100 days in office.
In his State of the City Address Friday held at Dinggoy Roxas Civic Center,
Celino said that “H.O.P.E.” is his inspiration for the city, which stands for Health, Opportunities, Peace and Order, and Environment.
For health, he said the city government has been giving financial assistance to dengue patients and has initiated efforts to fight the disease.
He is also proud of the city’s clean schools, repaired and de-clogged drainage system and clean waterways, Celino said.
The mayor also cited the opening of the birthing clinic this month and rehabilitation of dumpsite in Sibaguan as among his accomplishments.
In opportunities, Celino said the city has extended financial assistance amounting to P2,249,083 to 1,052 clients and conducted livelihood seminar to nine groups and provided financial aid to them ranging from P120,000 to P150,000.
There is also an ongoing feeding program in 47 barangays, dispersal of goats and chickens for typhoon Frank victims, and jobs fair.
Celino said he has also asked assistance from the Department of Agriculture Secretary Alcala for the establishment of a “Triple A” slaughterhouse in the city, with the help of former Senator Manuel Roxas II and his mother, Judy Araneta- Roxas.
Additional roads costing P10 million, including an extension of San Roque St. passing through airport, going outside Arnaldo Boulevard are also in the pipeline.
For peace and order, Celino said operations of illegal numbers games in city have stopped, and low crime rate though the increase of police visibility operations has been noted.
He said the city government is also providing gasoline allowance to the police, spending for the repair of police station and patrol car, and uniforms of police auxiliaries, aside from providing intelligence fund.
For environment , Celino said he has reactivated the Bantay Dagat against illegal fishing, ordered the rehabilitation of dumpsite, and issued an executive order reconstituting the Roxas City Solid Waste Management.
He has also formed a team that will visit Cadiz City in Negros Occidental to study the P28-million sanitary landfill project of the city in preparation for the implementation of a similar project in Roxas.
Celino said he also asked the assistance of Department of Interior and Local Government Officer Clyne Deocampo in “his plan to regain the lost name of Roxas City as the cleanest and greenest city in Western Visayas.*
