Boracay tourist arrivals up 19.85%
The tourist arrivals in the island-resort of Boracay in Aklan province registered a 19.85 percent increase as compared to last year’s months of January to September.
According to the Department of Tourism Regional Office 6, the tourist arrivals from January to September 2010 totaled 607,537 with foreign visitors numbering 209,427 and the others as Overseas Filipinos and domestic.
Comparing this year’s figure with that of last year’s only 506,896, the registered increase is at 19.85 percent.
The foreign tourists that registered the highest contingent are those from the East Asia, topped by the Koreans with 68,813, followed by Taiwan with 41,551 and then China with 32,107.
Europe registered next to East Asia with 25,325 visitors. United Kingdom in Europe has sent the most number of tourists with a total of 4,810 and followed by Germany with 3,517 visitors.
Other foreign visitors are from the ASEAN countries with 3,937; South Asia with 614; North America with 13,930; Oceania 5,143; and Middle East with 2,144.
The visitors in Boracay island from January to September has generated an income of P11,168,595,685.80 for the various tourism stakeholders during their stay in the island.*PNA
