Parents of fire casualties get aid
The Iloilo City Government gave out cash assistance to families of the children who died in the fire last week at Brgy. Rizal Ibarra in City Proper district.
The financial aid was made possible through the help of the Philippine Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry-Panay chapter, represented by Ilonggo-Chinese businessmen Charles Ho, Francis Sio, and Oscar Chua.
A total of P30,000 was donated by the group, P10,000 each for the families of three children who perished in the fire.
The families of Kyle Dumalag, four years old; Jhon Roqsell Ledesma, four years old; and Roxielyn Ledesma, five years old, received their checks from Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog in a turn-over ceremony at the City Hall yesterday.
“We are very thankful for this donation. We commend the Philippine Chinese Chamber of Commerce-Panay for they have been one of the firsts to respond to our call for help,” the mayor said.
The business group also gave 500 pieces of used and unused clothing to fire victims.
Latest report from the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) show a total of 69 families were affected by the incident, with 40 houses destroyed, and four were damaged.
The rest of other families were “sharers” in same houses, according to CSWDO.
Affected families are temporarily staying in the village basketball court while some are with their neighbors and relatives.
Food assistance, consisting of rice, noodles and sardines, were extended to the fire victims.
The CSWDO already recommended to Mabilog the awarding of cash assistance – P5,000 to those with destroyed houses and P2,500 for damaged ones.*
