Man, 85, dies in fire
An octogenarian died in an early morning fire yesterday in his house in Villa Carolina Subdivision in Arevalo district, Iloilo City.
The charred body of Benjamin Sindico, 85, was found inside a comfort room.
Based on investigation, the two househelps saw smoke billowing from their employer’s room at around 1:30 a.m.
House help Vilma Caingoy said immediately checked on Sindico and pounded on the door but there was no response.
After Bureau of Fire Protection firefighters contained the fire, they found Sindico’s charred body inside the comfort room.
Caingoy said Sindico’s wife was not around during the incident as the couple had misunderstanding.
Also, Caingoy said her employer could have started the fire deliberately.
Fire Officer I Rolen Hormena, however, said Sindico could not have purposely set their house on fire because he even used a fire extinguisher.
They saw matches inside his room but maybe because he lighted a candle that caused the fire, Hormena said.
Meanwhile, a fire also razed a two-storey house in Brgy. Balabag, Pavia town hours before the Arevalo fire.
Owner Agustin Jurilla and his family were not around when the fire took placed.*
