Drop in dengue cases noted
ROXAS CITY – There is a significant decrease in the number of dengue cases in Capiz in September.
Records from the Capiz Epidemiological Surveillance and Response Unit of the Provincial Health Office show dengue cases in September totaled 237 only, compared to the 1,059 cases in August.
The cases in September were even lower than the 280 cases registered in June.
In August, Capiz posted the highest number of cases in the history, prompting the provincial government to place the entire province under the state of calamity due to dengue epidemic.
From January to September this year, dengue cases in Capiz already reached 2,787 with 19 deaths.
From October 1 to 2, only five cases were recorded.
Of the total cases, Roxas City posted the highest number at 961 followed by Dao with 225 cases.
More than 100 cases each were also recorded in the towns of Panitan, Pontevedra, Panay, Maayon, President Roxas, Pilar and Dumalag.
Sapian town has the lowest dengue cases, with only 46 from January to October 2 this year.
The PHO has stressed the need for cleanliness and environmental sanitation in every household and community, coupled with multi-sectoral cooperation and support to prevent the spread of dengue-carrying mosquitoes.*PIA
