More jobs seen for Ilonggos
The Iloilo City government is keen on significantly increasing the employment rate of the city next year.
Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said this in his first state of the city address which he delivered before members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod and the public Wednesday.
Mabilog said that attracting and retaining jobs is the top priority of the city government. He also said the economic team he created headed by volunteers from the most successful private business groups has already made a list of strategies to achieve this goal.
He said he also hopes that the various job fairs, through the “Trabaho sa Barangay” program that the city government has spearheaded, will provide employment to jobless Ilonggos.
He also noted that the Public Employment and Services Office (PESO) has helped the unemployed find jobs in private companies.
Likewise, he said that new business establishments that will soon pen in the city will definitely give jobs to the city’s vast pool of workers.
These include the Ayala Technohub, Ateneo de Iloilo, Citi Hardware in Jaro, SM Hypermart, Plazuela de Iloilo, Iloilo Society Commercial in Tagbac, the Medicus Hospital, Iloilo Scholastic College, Century 21 Hotel, and the first-ever 10-story condominium along Pison Avenue. This is aside from interested players in the field of call centers.
The city will host an economic summit in February next year in hopes of attracting more investors and job opportunities, the mayor said.*PNA
