DTI warns against buying cheap products in sidewalks
The Department of Trade and Industry 6 is reminding consumers to be wary of buying very cheap products, especially those sold along city streets and sidewalks.
DTI 6 Information Officer Ruby Melliza said consumers should not be fooled by sellers along the streets who are hawking very affordable products.
These products are more likely to have not passed the quality standards set by the DTI and other product-monitoring agencies, she said.
Melliza also warned buyers not to buy foreign products, especially toys and other electronic gadgets.
She said these plastic toys may be toxic and dangerous for toddlers and children. It could also be detrimental to their health as children are prone to chew and ingest them.
Meanwhile, various electronic products sold in the streets may be made with very thin insulation and poor conducting materials that could likely cause fire with prolonged used.
She said consumers should be keen on inspecting electrical products for the Christmas season such as lights and similar items.
Melliza said the DTI is urging the public to report substandard materials to their consumer welfare desks.
DTI is currently intensifying its product monitoring in light of the incoming holiday season, wherein sellers of fake products abound.*PNA
