Girl, 6, dies in Tapaz fire
A six-year-old girl died while her mother was seriously injured in a fire that razed their house in Roosevelt St., Brgy. Poblacion Ilawod in Tapaz, Capiz Sunday morning.
Jinky Honorario, a pre-schooler, was burned to death while her two siblings, one a three-year-old and the other, seven-month-old, survived.
A neighbor said he saw smoke and fire coming from the house of couple Jun and Gloria Honorario at around 6 a.m.
Jun immediately went to save his two younger children who were still asleep. He, however, failed to get Jinky out of the mosquito net.
His wife suffered burns on her back.
Investigation of the Bureau of Fire Protection revealed the fire started from a “cheap” plastic ceiling fan, whose insulator melted because it could not contain the voltage, resulting to a short circuit.
Jinky was sleeping right under the electric fan.
The fire spread and destroyed three other houses. A fourth house was damaged.
Some of the victims though managed to salvage some of their belongings.
According to the BFP, the damage to property was pegged at around P1.5 million.
The BFP Capiz also reminded the public not to be swayed into buying cheap appliances that could compromise their safety.*
