8 nabbed for gun ban violation
Intensified police operations conducted by the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) resulted to the apprehension of eight persons for violating the elections gun ban law.
Data from the ICPO information office disclosed that the highest apprehension was recorded in Lapaz district with three; two from Jaro and one each from the City Proper, Molo and Mandurriao.
The strengthened campaign was aimed purposely to have honest, orderly and peaceful elections, Senior Supt. Dennis Basngi, city police director, said.
Meanwhile, of the city’s 180 barangays, 17 candidates running for the punong barangay post and 23 aspiring Sangguniang Kabatan chair are uncontested.
The Commission on Elections has received 7,375 certificates of candidacy both for the barangay and SK posts.
There are 438 candidates for punong barangay and 4,166 for kagawad. Also, 464 are vying for the SK chairman posts and 2,307, SK council member.
The training for 2,433 teachers who will serve as board of election inspectors has already started.*PNA
