Bantay Dagat seizes 11 fishing boats
The Provincial Bantay Dagat Task Force recently seized 11 fishing boats in the municipal waters of Concepcion, Iloilo for illegal fishing.
Provincial Agriculturist Ildefonso Toledo, in a report submitted to Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr., said the operations were conducted October 14 and 16 by the Iloilo Provincial Public Safety Management Command headed by Supt. John Mitchell Jamili.
They were joined by Jude Sotomil of the Provincial Agriculture Office and selected deputized provincial fish wardens and policemen.
The vessels seized were F/B Tongie owned by Margie Porter of Roxas City; F/B Kimmar owned by Marilou Alayon of Roxas City; F/B Baby Gel 1 and 2 owned by Bernard Pescador of Concepcion, Iloilo; F/B DJ owned by Darry Tornga of Victorias City, Negros Occidental;
F/B Niño owned by Neil Francisco of Concepcion, Iloilo; F/B Toto Jay-R owned by Mercy Caaneso of Estancia, Iloilo; F/B Che-che owned by Lilybeth Bohol of Estancia, Iloilo; F/B Lazarita owned by Rolando Gajeto of Estancia, Iloilo; F/B Alfred owned by Alfred Capao of Estancia, Iloilo; and F/B Joebert owned by Guillermo Cañeso of Estancia, Iloilo.
F/B Tongie and F/B Kimmar, both using mid-water trawls, violated sections 86, 89 and 104 of the Philippine Fisheries Code of 1998 and its owners and crew are now facing charges at the 4th Municipal Circuit Trial Court.
Meanwhile, the nine other fishing boats which used trawls violated Sec. 9.06 of Municipal Ordinance No. 1 Series of 2008 or Unlicensed Fishing Activities and have been fined P2,500 each.*
