Querol to pursue police-community partnership against crime
Chief Supt. Cipriano Querol Jr., newly appointed director of Police Regional Office 6, has vowed to focus on the priority actions of the Philippine National Police intended to push a reform agenda and strengthen the police service.
Just like PNP Director General Raul Bacalzo, Querol said he would start his stint as PRO-6 chief with a heart for change, stressing good manners and right performance of duty among policemen.
He also emphasized the importance of police-community partnership in the maintenance of peace and order.
Querol said he would strengthen the PNP’s Community-Oriented Policing System (COPS).
In implementing the COPS, Querol said they would go to the barangay level to explain to the people that each one has a role to play in peace and development efforts.
It is at the barangay level where first responses are made during crime incidents and crisis situation, he said.
Querol said he will initiate the organization of barangay peace-keeping action teams (BPATS) composed of the barangay residents, non-government organizations, and volunteers.
“They would work on a catch-all strategy. They would not only run after illegal drugs but all forms of crime to include street crimes. They would also be tapped for disaster preparedness efforts,” he added.
Querol took over from PRO-6 officer-in-charge, Senior Supt. Ernesto Tesoro, who succeeded Chief Supt. Samuel Pagdilao Jr.
Pagdilao was transferred to Region 4-A last October 15.
Querol, a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class 1981, was the director of the Police Community Relations Group before his present assignment.
He was director of the Capiz Police Provincial Office in 2007.*
