Search on for WV stats achievers
The search for achievers on statistics in Western Visayas has been launched on October 20.
It seeks to recognize outstanding achievements of statisticians behind the generation of reliable and timely official statistics, among others, during the launch which served as one of the highlights of the 1st World Statistics Day celebration in the region.
“The search is in response to the emphasis that has been given in this year’s World Statistics Day celebration on the core values of service, integrity and professionalism,” said National Economic and Development Authority 6 Director Ro-Ann Bacal, chairperson of Regional Statistical Coordination Committee 6.
A Technical Working Group was created for the search chaired by NEDA and co-chaired by the National Statistical Coordination Board with the following as members: National Statistics Office, Philippine Information Agency, Philippine Statistical Association, University of the Philippines-Visayas, Commission on Higher Education, Department of Education, and the Department of Science and Technology.
The search will culminate with the recognition of awardees during the World Statistics Day celebration next year.
President Benigno Simeon Aquino III has declared October 20, 2010 as World Statistics Day pursuant to Proclamation No. 43 wherein he directed all departments, government agencies, including government-owned and controlled corporations, as well as local government units to collaborate with the NSCB in advocating and implementing activities pertaining to the WSD.*PIA6
