308 inmates in Iloilo City cast votes
Three hundred eight inmates of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Brgy. Ungka, Jaro, Iloilo City exercised their right of suffrage in yesterday’s barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections, according to the Philippine News Agency.
City Assistant Election Officer Jonathan Sayno said a special board of election teller was created to conduct the electoral proceedings inside the city district jail.
The inmates participated in the elections in 96 barangays.
A support staff has been assigned to retrieve their ballots from their respective precincts. The completed ballots were then returned to the same precincts.
The voting inside the jails were held from 7 a.m. to 12 noon.
The privilege to create a special board of election teller was granted to district jails having 100 or more inmates who are qualified to vote otherwise inmates will have to be escorted to their respective precincts if the jail failed to meet the required number.
More than 25,000 inmates were expected to vote yesterday or less than 50 percent of the 60,000 inmates nationwide, according to the BJMP
