77 barangays placed under polls watchlist
ROXAS CITY – Seventy-seven barangays in Capiz have been identified as election watchlist areas (EWAS) by the Joint Security Coordinating Center.
Senior Supt. Renato Gumban, provincial police director, said 27 are included in Category 1, while 50 are under Category 2.
Category 1 include those barangays that have election related incidents and intense political rivalry based on the last elections.
Villages under Category 2 were noted to have the presence of communist groups.
Gumban said despite the tension among barangay candidates and their alliances, yesterday’s elections was generally peaceful and orderly.
Yesterday morning though a supporter of a reelectionist village head in Pontevedra town was wounded in a shooting incident.*
