Election official hopes for speedier counting
Provincial Election Supervisor Elizabeth Doronila said yesterday she hopes the counting process for the barangay and SK polls in all areas in Iloilo proceeded without hitches.
Doronila said the counting process can definitely be faster especially that the elections is just in the barangay level.
As of press time, she said the Commission on Election was expecting that results will be available before the day ends.
She said the COMELEC is strictly monitoring the tally of results.
Doronila said they will deal harshly with persons or groups who disrupt the counting process or who intentionally stop the canvassing of ballots.
Iloilo province (not Western Visayas as reported yesterday) has almost 62,000 candidates or 61,832 to be exact.
Of the number, 4,190 ran for village head while 33,792, for village councilman. A total of 4,658 youths ran for SK chairman while 19,192, for SK councilman.
Iloilo province has 1,721 barangays in its 42 municipalities. The province has more than one million voters.*PNA
