Iloilo PDC endorses 2 irrigation projects
The Provincial Development Council of Iloilo has officially endorsed to the Regional Development Council 6 the two major irrigation projects of the province.
These are the P15-billion Jalaur River Multi-Purpose Project Stage II and the P197.5-million rehabilitation of the Sta. Barbara National Irrigation System.
The two projects to be undertaken by the National Irrigation Administration was endorsed by the PDC during its meeting in Iloilo City last week.
The PDC also approved the Provincial Development and Physical Framework Plan (PDPFP) for calendar year 2008 to 2013, Provincial Development Investment Program (PDIP) for calendar year 2008-2013, and Annual Investment Program (AIP) for 2011.
The AIP, amounting to P244 million, will funded by the 20 percent Internal Revenue Allotment share of the province.
The three plan documents contain the priorities of Gov. Arthur Defensor’s administration aimed at enhancing the quality of life of the people through quality and accessible education, social welfare and related services, as well as improved health services and agricultural productivity.
The approval of the PDPFP, PDIP, and AIP came after the documents underwent a review from various sectoral representatives.
Major programs to be financed under the three plan documents include: hospital enhancement program, acquisition of much needed equipment, upgrading/improvement of bridges and provincial roads, agricultural development program, watershed protection and rehabilitation, animal health management program, integrated coastal management, sports infrastructure program, among others.
The council also selected as PDC co-chair Anilao Mayor Ma. Teresa Debuque, president of League of Municipalities of the Philippines-Iloilo Chapter.*
