Elections postponed in 20 Capiz villages
The Commission on Elections has postponed until tomorrow the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections in 20 barangays in three Capiz towns due to the delayed arrival of the official ballots and other election paraphernalia.
Of the 20 barangays, 13 are in Tapaz; five in Jamindan; and two in Sapian.
Capiz Provincial Election Supervisor lawyer Wil Arceño said 13 villages in Tapaz are upland and far-flung communities and can be reached only after two days.
Among these barangays are Aglupakan, Bato-bato, Buri, Hilwan, Mabini, Maliaw, Rizal Sur, Senonod, Siya, Takayan and Taganhin.
The election paraphernalia for these areas arrived only early Monday morning, Arceño said.
Also, the seven barangays of Sapian and Jamindan still lack more than 8,000 official ballots.
The two villages in Sapian are Poblacion and Agsilab.
Capiz, composed of 473 barangays, has 425,621 registered voters for the barangay elections and 33,350, for the SK polls.
The COMELEC has established 1,372 clustered precincts for Monday’s elections.
Amid the glitches, Capiceño voters in most villages in the province experienced a favorable weather despite tropical storm “Katring” affecting Northern Luzon areas.
Also, Areceño called on the voters anew to be counted as he reminded aspirants for village and youth council seats to set aside partisan politics and help authorities conduct peaceful and orderly elections.*with reports from JEC
