Jaywalking rule to cover Diversion Road, Luna St. by Nov. 2
The Iloilo City Government will expand the scope of the anti-jaywalking ordinance up to Diversion Road in Mandurriao district and Luna Street in La Paz district starting November 2.
Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said the City Council approved on October 6 the extension of the coverage of the anti-jaywalking ordinance.
In Mandurriao, pedestrians should use the overpass in crossing to and from SM City along the Diversion Road.
In La Paz, the overpass in front of Gaisano City in Luna St. should be used when crossing the road in front of the shopping mall.
Mabilog said the pedestrian lanes in these areas will be painted anew.
From November 2 to 15, violators in Diversion Road and General Luna St. will be given only warning notices.
However, from November 16 onwards, violators will be fined not more than P50.
Mabilog has asked the help of media to inform the public about the expanded anti-jaywalking ordinance.
“There is a need for the curtailment of rampant jaywalking in major thoroughfares to maintain peace and order among the inhabitants of the city for the promotion of general welfare,” the ordinance states.
The rule was first implemented August 6 in City Proper at Delgado-Valeria Sts. along the Marymart area where 1,199 violators were apprehended as of October 22, and in Gen. Luna-Valeria Sts. or in the Atrium area where 1,563 violators were caught as of October 27.*
