Drugs seen behind slay of pregnant woman
Police investigators are pursuing the illegal drug angle as the motive in the killing of a seven-month pregnant woman Friday morning in Estancia, Iloilo.
Estancia police chief, Senior Insp. Almaquer, said the incident could be drug-related because victim Gretchen Gale Alimios, 21, and suspect Jaypee Demandante, 24, both residents of Brgy. Tacbuyan, are in the watchlist of illegal drug personalities in the area.
“It’s possible that the killing could have been triggered by a double-crossed transaction,” Almaquer said.
When Demandante was arrested, a plastic sachet of suspected shabu and three sachets of marijuana were found in his possession.
Almaquer said the cemetery, where Alimios body was found, could have served as the “pot session” area for the group of Demandante and the victim.
Alimios’ family, however, said a botched transaction over a firearm sale resulted to their kin’s death.
Lorna Alimios, the victim’s mother, said Demandante asked her daughter to sell a firearm but when the sale was completed the two had a misunderstanding on how the proceeds will be divided.
The victim’s body was found near her grandfather’s tomb by her uncle, Henry de la Cruz, a utility personnel of the cemetery, at around 8:30 a.m. Friday.*
