Official: Few LGUs comply with ecological garbage management
Only very few of the local government units have good compliance on solid waste management, but there are still some sectors in the mood of solving the problem on garbage.
This was the gist of the message of Director Ruben Posadas, one of the resource persons of the National Eco-Solid Waste Management Summit for LGUs and National Government Agencies involved in RA 9003 implementation.
The summit held in Punta Villa Resort in Iloilo City was attended by participants coming from various regions in the country, drew up plans to counter the problem on solid waste management, which is becoming a major health and environmental concern.
“We don’t have a very good compliance on Solid Waste Management, considering that when you go around, you will see that garbage collection is not that good and final disposal of this waste is not ecological,” Posadas said.
Chief Executive Officer Henry Tamsi of the Eco-Forum said there is still a need for an inter-agency collaboration to address the garbage problem.
He said people need to be educated on solid waste management and there is also the need to capacitate the local government executives.
Tamsi said the summit’s output will serve as the basis on how the government should go through the problem.
He said there about 3,465 barangays implementing solid waste management and later the successes of these barangays will be known and hoped to be replicated in other areas in the country.*PIA6
