Performances culminate IP month
ROXAS CITY – Various performances of Indigenous People (IP) at the IP Village in Villareal Stadium here concluded the province’s IP Month celebration on October 29.
The performances included epic chanting, composo presentation and pandang-pandang dance, among others, that were staged by Panay Bukidnon from Tapaz, aetas of Mt. Tag-ao in Dumarao, and another IP group from Jamindan town.
“IPs are the living treasures of Capiz,” Provincial Tourism Officer Alphonsus Tesoro said in Hiligaynon during the closing program.
The provincial government also participated in the IP festival last October 20 to 23 in Manila through cultural performances, craft demonstrations, and exhibit.
The Filamer Christian University Dance Company and Dagway Sigmahanon represented the Hiligaynon ethno-linguistic group in the festival aimed to instill respect and appreciation of the IP culture.
In 2009, the province also hosted the same festival which has earned Capiz an award from the Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines during its 11th national convention last month at the Subic Freeport Zone.
It cited the province for hosting the festival that has attracted international and domestic tourists.
The IP month celebration is pursuant to former President Gloria Arroyo’s Presidential Proclamation No. 486 as well as the United Nations General Assembly Declaration of the years 2005 to 2014 as the Second Decade of the World’s IPs.*PIA
