Among the events include the Sad-Sad sa Kalye, the Parade of Higantes or giant seafoods as Capiz province is the “Seafood Capital of the Philippines.”
The queen of Sinadya sa Halaran will be the daughter of the late Rep. Dinggoy Roxas and granddaughter of Mrs. Judy Araneta Roxas.
Sinadya means joy. It is the festival in honor of Mama Mary, the Roxas City patroness, celebrated every December 8.
Halaran means offering, it was conceived during the time of Gov. Cornelio Villareal Jr. in the late 70s. It was celebrated first in July, however, it was moved to October during the stint of former Gov. Jose Borda.
When former Gov. Esteban Contreras assumed office in the mid-90’s, the two festivals were merged and named Sinadya sa Halaran.*
