Iloilo rice harvest continues
Harvest of the first cropping in the province of Iloilo continues with the total reported rice production of 34,344.34 metric tons as of October 31.
Provincial Agriculture Officer Ildefonso Toledo said the production figures have been collated from the reports of eight municipalities that met the deadline for submission.
These include New Lucena, San Rafael, Dueñas, Banate, Sta. Barbara, Batad, Bingawan, and Estancia.
Total rice production was harvested from 10,043.35 hectares of rice fields in the eight municipalities that obtained an average yield of 3.42 metric tons per hectare or 85.5 cavans per hectare.
Compared to the 3.7 metric tons average yield per hectare or 88.1 cavans per hectare last September though, the production in October saw a small deviation.
Other municipalities are expected to submit their reports soon.
School-On-Air
Meanwhile, some 500 farmers all over Iloilo are set to graduate from the School-On-Air on Palayaman of the Department of Agriculture 6 this month.
The SOA on Palayaman students are from the municipalities of Barotac Viejo, Cabatuan, Dingle, Igbaras, Lambunao, Leganes, Oton, Pototan, San Rafael, Sta. Barbara, Tigbauan, Zarraga, and the component city of Passi.
DA 6 Information Officer Juvy Gaton said this is also the longest SOA they have conducted because the topics are comprehensive and more diversified.
The SOA on Palayaman, aired from 4 a.m. to 4:30 a.m. daily on DYRI Iloilo, aims to make farmers adept in all aspects of sustainable agriculture, which must be practiced within the community.*PNA
