Dog vaccination in Iloilo hits all-time high of 76%
The Iloilo Provincial Veterinary Office said 76.27 percent or 199,760 of the province’s 261,901 dog population are already vaccinated.
The figure is an all-time high achievement for Iloilo province.
Dr. Silvino R. Teodosio Jr., provincial veterinarian, said the Bill and Melinda Gates (BMG) Foundation helped make the vaccination program possible.
The BMG Foundation sent vials of anti-rabies vaccine for 183,340 dogs. The counterpart of the Iloilo provincial government is vaccination for 14,420 other dogs.
The Department of Agriculture also vaccinated 2,000 dogs in Iloilo this year.
Teodosio said the vaccination program aims to reduce incidence of rabies in the province, adding that province’s rabies control efforts began during the late 1980s.*PNA
