Barangay officials to attend orientation on skills registry
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and Iloilo City Public Employment Service Office (PESO) will conduct a two-day orientation on the skills registry system for barangay officials in the city.
The activity set November 25 and 26 will be held at the Western Visayas College of Science and Technology.
PESO Iloilo City Manager Alan Zaldivar said they soon aim to establish a barangay-based skills registry system that will serve as a manpower pool of skilled workers thus the need to brief village officials about it.
There are abundant jobs in the country that need to be filled but applicants do not meet the requirements of the prospective jobs.
“This is to ensure faster referral of applicants by matching an individual’s skills to the current job availability,” Zaldivar said.
Addressing the problem of job and skills mismatch is one of the priorities of Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog, in line with the national government’s thrust to solve unemployment and underemployment.
Zaldivar said the orientation is the first of its kind after Iloilo City has been chosen by DOLE to be one of the pilot cities for skills registry program. The other pilot venue is Bacolod City.
He said those who will be included in the skills registry system will have an easier time applying for work through Phil-JobNet, the government’s job matching portal at www.phil-job.net.*
