DSWD grants accreditation to New Lucena seniors’ center
The Senior Citizens’ Center of New Lucena, Iloilo was recently granted an accreditation by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
The accreditation means that New Lucena is a senior citizen-friendly town and that its center for the elderly complies with all the requirement set by the Senior Citizens Act.
New Lucena Mayor Liecel Seville said they are proud that DSWD has recognized their senior citizens’ center, especially that the local government has been making sure that their elderly population is well taken care of.
The fifth-class municipality has more than 500 senior citizens registered in the center.
Seville said the accreditation shows that New Lucena is progressing in terms of its social services, including its programs for senior citizens.
She said the center acts as office for its senior citizens’ association and also assists the elderly in implementing their various programs and projects.
The center is located beside the municipal hall and is equipped with ramps, restrooms, and other facilities that will ease accessibility for the elderly.
The accreditation was signed by Social Welfare Secretary Dinky Soliman and is effective for three years until October 2013.*PNA
