65 publications vie for COPRE awards
Sixty five publications from colleges, universities, state universities and colleges in Western Visayas are vying for awards in different categories during the College Press Conference 2010 on November 26 in Iloilo City.
The COPRE is a yearly activity of the Philippine Information Agency 6 set aside for the recognition and awarding of best campus papers and best individual student writers, based on the inputs for application given during the series of basic journalism seminar workshops conducted by PIA every July and August.
PIA 6 Director Janet Mesa said this year, the publications are competing to get major awards for Best Newspaper, Best Magazine, Best Departmental Publication, Best Newsletter, and Best Wall News.
Mesa said for the first time, a special award for Online Journalism with Smart Communications will be given by the latter in partnership with PIA 6.
Awards will be given for Best News, Features, Opinions, Best Community Action Stories, Best Blog Writers, Best Photojournalists and Best Web and Multimedia page.
Three high school publications and eight college publications are competing for these awards.
Mesa said another special award is the Disaster Risk Reduction Management Writing Award in partnership with the Canadian Urban Institute, for publications and writers that have published development and community-oriented news, features and opinion articles on DRRM, and advocacies on environment and climate change mitigation.
To keep up to its thrust in development communication, PIA has launched this year, a contest for Best Wall News, where entries are judged as to its community-oriented articles and relevant messages, in support of programs of government.*PIA6
