Guimaras sustains efforts vs illegal gambling, fishing
The Guimaras Provincial Police Office is sustaining its campaign against illegal gambling in the island-province despite the difficult task of attaining 100-percent compliance in eradicating illegal gambling.
Supt. Leo Becerial, director of GPPO, said that so far, the GPPO has posted a 96 percent compliance against unlawful gambling activities, which means that only sporadic gambling movements in the five municipalities continue to exist.
To manifest the police’s determination to stamp out illegal gambling in Guimaras, Becerial said he has given strict orders to all police chiefs to intensify their efforts to stop the spread of unuathorized gambling in the province.
Meanwhile, the Bantay Dagat in Guimaras has so far apprehended eight fishermen caught poaching in the waters of San Lorenzo town and confiscated their three fishing boats.
The eight fishermen are from Negros Occidental.
Becerial said they will file necessary charges against the violators, saying that he would not accept any form of settlement that would allow them to go scot-free.* PNA
