Taxi driver robbed, shot by passenger in Jaro
A cabbie was injured after he fought the passenger who robbed him Wednesday night along Sitio Don Delfin in Brgy. Tabuc Suba, Jaro, Iloilo City.
Nicolas Peñol, 30, who is now confined in a hospital in Iloilo City, is the driver of Welex Taxi with plate number FWR-856.
A nearby resident heard Peñol shouting for help at around 10 p.m.
Jojo Subaldo said Peñol tried to enter their fence as he was struggling with a gunshot wound on his back and an injury on his head.
The robber boarded the taxi somewhere in City Proper and instructed Peñol to bring him to Tabuc Suba.
He declared a hold-up while they were passing by a dark area. When Peñol resisted, the robber hit him on the head and shot him while he was running away.
The robber took the driver’s collection of undertermined amount.
Based on police records, Peñol is the 12th victim of robbery hold-up among taxi drivers in Iloilo City.
Chief Supt. Cipriano Querol, police regional director, advised taxi drivers to log-in before driving their passengers to their destinations and log-out after they have done so as part of the preventive measures against robbery.
“The log-in, log-out policy is a big help to prevent robbery. This is for the safety of the drivers,” Querol said.*JPR
