NIA to implement multi-million irrigation project in Capiz
Roxas City – The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) will implement a phase of the P186-million Maayon Communal Irrigation Project (CIP) in Barangay Jebacca, Maayon, Capiz early next year.
The phase which has an assured allocation of P45-million will cover the construction of 1.4 kilometer close conduit from Jebacca to Alayunan and repair of access road from Batabat to Jebacca.
CIP’s dam site is located in Jebacca.
“The Proposed irrigable area is around 780 hectares and will benefit an estimated 874 farmers from barangays Poblacion Ilaya, Ilawod, Batabat, Piña, Salgan, Alayunan and Fernandez and in Maayon town as well as Cabugao and Cabangahan in the municipality of Panit-an., said NIA Aklan – Capiz Irrigation Management Office Public Information Officer Engr. Julieta Gallardo.
For his part, NIA Aklan – Capiz Irrigation Management Office Division Manager Engr. Rizalo Concepcion said that the project aims to increase rice production in the locality from 60 to 100 cavans per hectare.
The Maayon CIP was launched last April 2002 but due to funding constraints, canal structures were only constructed partially.
Capiz Cong. Antonio Del Rosario has also pledged to help in the project which has been in line with his agenda of improving the quality of life in the far-flung villages.
He said he will help in the budget hearing and follow up of funds to ensure continuous implementation of the project.
The dam and other irrigation structures amounting to about P30-million are also programmed for Calendar Year 2011.
