Suspects in brgy. official’s killing arrested
DUMARAO, Capiz – The suspects in the killing of a councilor of Brgy. Salcedo, Dumarao last Monday was arrested yesterday.
A police investigator identified the suspects as Cyril, 18, son of Brgy. Captain Orlando Monserat and Romulo dela Pedra, 26 of the same place. Both are currently detained at the lock-up cell of the Dumarao police station.
Police told TNT that several witnesses pointed to the two as the shooter of Joel Palite, barangay kagawad and acting barangay captain, last November 20 at around 1 AM in Poblacion Ilaya this town.
Police said that the victim was driving home from a benefit dance at Codingle when he accidentally sideswiped a motorcycle with two passengers. The female passenger was hurt, leading to an argument between her and her companion.
Later, a single motorcycle where the two suspects are riding, emerged and they shot the victim.
Palite succumbed to two fatal wounds at left side of his body. He was rushed to the Dumarao Medical Hospital where he was declared dead.
The police recovered two empty shells of a 12-gauge shotgun at the scene of incident.
The arresting team was led by Insp. Neste Vargas, police of chief of Dumarao and SP04 Rito delos Santos with the help of the CIDG.
They ruled out politics as the motive, rather, that of drunkenness./JEC
