Basngi’s ICPO days numbered as Mabilog scouts replacement
Apparently dissatisfied with the performance of Iloilo City Police Office director, Senior Supt. Dennis Basngi, Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog has started scouting for a new city police chief.
“We have given him enough time,” the mayor told reporters yesterday.
The series of murder incidents in the city and other crimes in the past months have already caused alarm among the Ilonggos, particularly the business sector, prompting Mabilog to act.
Even Vice Mayor Jose Espinosa III has also seen a problem in the intelligence operations of the ICPO.
Mabilog said he wants a city police who has a political will and who can solve crimes fast, and preferably, an Ilonggo as well.
Basngi was named permanent director by Mabilog last August after several months of sitting as officer-in-charge.
In choosing Basngi over four other recommendees, Mabilog then cited Basngi’s good performance in maintaining peace and order in Iloilo City. He was then satisfied with Basngi’s performance after the crime rate in the city dropped.
The four other recommendees were Senior Supt. Marietto Valerio of the PRO6 Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division, Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz of PRO6 Regional Operations and Plans Division, Senior Supt. Orlando Ualat, and Senior Supt. Manuel Cubillo.*NLG
