‘Forget politics,” Treñas tells brgy. officials
Iloilo City Rep. Jerry Treñas yesterday told newly elected barangay captains in the city to forget politics and unite their constituents to solve the problems in their respective communities.
Treñas made the call during the mass oath-taking rites for barangay officials held at the Jaro gym.
Observers said Liga ng mga Barangay president Ma. Irene Ong was not among those who took their oath before Treñas, although the solon said he invited all barangay officials to attend.
Ong has openly expressed disapproval of Treñas’ declaration of support to her prospective rival in the Liga presidency, Brgy. Capt. Roberto Divinagracia of Brgy. San Agustin, City Proper, as she believes the Liga elections should be free from politics.
At the induction rites, Treñas also urged the village officials to always maintain peace and security in their barangays.
He added that his office is always ready to assist the barangays in their various projects especially on health, public service and infrastructures.
Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog, who sworn in the village councilmen and Sangguniang Kabataan councilors, reminded the officials to serve their constituents at all times and implement the various projects of the city government in their barangays.
Progressive barangays are those that closely coordinate with the mayor and other city officials, and the police.
All barangay and SK officials elected during the October 25 elections will
officially start their term on December 1.*with reports from PNA
