Catholic Church ready to hold own RH survey
The Catholic Church is ready to prove its critics wrong by claiming that many people are against the Reproductive Health (RH) bill by conducting its own survey.
“I see no problem with that. I myself tried that and I found out that the opposition isn’t just 80 rather 100 percent,” said Bishop Emeritus of Novaliches Teodoro Bacani Jr. at the sidelines of the Talakayan sa Bayan on RH Bill organized by Radyo Veritas at the Universidad de Manila.
He said that if they will decide to conduct a survey, it will involve different dioceses.
It can be recalled that a Pulse Asia survey last October 2008 showed that 82 percent of the respondents said that the government should not only educate couples regarding modern methods of family planning but also provide them with services and materials on these methods.
Bacani is not keen on the result of the survey, saying that those who conducted it probably did not explain the contents of the bill.
“Probably, they were only asked if they are in favor of family planning. Who wouldn’t agree to that? But, if you tell them that the help will be in the form of these abortifacients, I don’t think they’ll support that,” he said.
He said that he tried asking some people in Lipa, Batangas and nobody approved of it after knowing what comprises the proposal.
The controversial bill is currently being deliberated on at the Committee level at the House of Representatives.
The Catholic Church is against the proposal because since it promotes artificial family planning, the Church people are pushing for natural way of family planning.*PNA
