Roxas councilor elected VP of PLLENRO for Visayas
ROXAS CITY – Councilor Powell del Rosario was elected vice president for Visayas and chairman for Region 6 of the Philippine League of Local Environment and Natural Resources Officers Inc. during the election held at the first national convention of PLLENRO on November 17 to 19 at Bayview Hotel, Manila.
Del Rosario represented Roxas City as chairman of the Task Force Environmental Protection.
A long-time environmental advocate, he was president of Save the Olotayan Inc. before he was elected councilor and became chairman of the City Council’s committee on environment.
Del Rosario spearheaded the campaign against illegal fishing that destroyed the corals reefs in the coastal barangays of Roxas City.
The PLLENRO convention, themed “Managing Disasters and Reducing Risk from Climate Change,” aimed to gather environment officers nationwide to present the national framework on climate change, hold development planning, and tackle issues and problems related to enforcement of devolved functions.
The speakers included Neric Acosta, secretary general of Council of Asian Liberals and Democrats, and Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri, chairman of Senate committee on environment and natural resources.*
