Espinosa wants improved police intelligence operations
Iloilo City Vice Mayor Joe Espinosa III has urged the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) to strengthen its intelligence unit to ensure peace and security in the metro.
Espinosa said police intelligence personnel in the city lack training, adding that their work is not sufficient to solve the series of killings in the city in the past months.
He said he wants the ICPO to train its personnel and not allow neophytes to lead in its intelligence operations for lack of field experience.
Intelligence personnel should also improve their relationship with the communities, especially with the village heads, tanods and assets, he added.
Espinosa said high-profile crimes can immediately be solved if the intelligence group has a good working relationship with the community leaders.
This is necessary because the community leaders are more adept with recent changes in their area, including new settlers and old residents.
Espinosa said that communities with people used in intelligence operations are necessary to solve crimes fast. They will be helpful the police especially that the intelligence force usually has limited resources and field officers.
The vice mayor said he is optimistic that the ICPO can rework their current intelligence unit strategies against organized crimes and drug related incidents.* PNA
