Four Panay mayors support livelihood projects of PWDs
Leaders of persons with disabilities (PWD) have come up with an agreement with the four municipal mayors of Panay Island to give livelihood opportunities for PWDs.
The mayors from Iloilo are Larry Villanueva of San Dionisio, Pedro Alarcon of Batad, and Milliard Villanueva of Concepcion, along with Mayor Rony Molina of San Jose, Antique.
They expressed support through technical and financial assistance for their proposed livelihood projects during a project consultative meeting held at Iloilo Provincial Capitol on November 23.
There were 25 participants representing the Disabled Peoples Organizations (DPO), Local Government Unit heads, Association of Disabled Persons in Antique (ADPI), Provincial Social Welfare Development Office (PSWDO), Office of the Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO) attended the activity.
Molina also shared his insights on their implementation of community-based rehabilitation program (CBRP).
“The Provincial Government of Iloilo has been committed to support the initiative of the PWDs through the years” said Neneth Q. Pador, head of the Provincial Social Welfare Development Office.
Jasper Rom, project manager of Handicap International under the Umwad Project, presented a one-year action program plan anchored on the inclusive local development and human rights frame for the persons with disabilities in the five pilot municipalities of Barbaza, Concecpcion, San Dionisio (Northern Iloilo) and Barbaza and Lau-an (Antique).
