Most of village, SK heads in Capiz take oath with LP
ROXAS CITY – Majority of the newly elected barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan officials of Capiz and Roxas City took their oath of office on November 27 before Cavite Rep. Joseph Emilio Abaya, secretary general of the Liberal Party.
The mass oathtaking, held at Capiz Gymnasium, was also attended by local LP stalwarts led by Gov. Victor Tanco Sr., First District Rep. Antonio del Rosario, Roxas City Mayor Alan Celino, Vice Mayor Ronnie Dadivas, Vice Gov. Esteban Contreras, and Emmanuel Billones, chief of staff of former Sen. Mar Roxas.
There were two sets of oathtaking rites – one for the newly elected barangay leaders and another for LP recruits.
Although it was mainly an LP affair, some officials who ran either as independents or under the Ugyon Kita Capiz party also showed up.
Abaya called on the newly elected punong barangays, barangay councilmen, SK chairmen and kagawads to set aside politics as they try to provide the needs of the people.
He reminded them that with elections now over, the bigger challenge confronting them is how to maximize their services for their constituents.
Playing politics, like giving favors to their supporters in terms of programs and projects, will work only on a short term basis, Abaya said, adding that it will be counterproductive in the long run.
Thirty-five of the 47 newly elected barangay captains of Roxas City professed allegiance to the LP.
“Definitely, the LP now has the number needed to ensure that it will get the presidency of the Liga ng mga Barangay for Roxas City,” an LP stalwart commented.
Maria Capapas of Brgy. Li-ong, an aunt of Celino, is being groomed to challenge incumbent Liga president Wilson Acervo of Brgy. Culajao, who was absent during the LP induction rites.
In his messsage, Tanco reminded the newly elected officials that the trust given to them by their constituents is sacred and, therefore, should not be abused.*
